The best Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 cases

Most Galaxy Z Flip 3 cases are two-piece, and many cases cover the hinge or offer hinge protection. In my conversations with case makers, designing a case that provides full hinge protection is a design challenge. But if that’s what you’re looking for, a few of these options protect the hinge.

No, Samsung does not sell – or allow anyone to – the original Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 front screen protector. If you put something on it, however, you can find a handful of screen protectors for the small external display.

Most, but not all, of the cases on this list allow you to wirelessly charge the Z Flip 3 with the case on. Cases with integrated kickstands, especially if they’re made of metal, may require you to remove the case to wirelessly charge your phone. That’s a shame — for the Z Flip 3, I like cases with integrated kickstands.

Speck only makes one case for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, and it’s a good one. The Presidio Perfect-Clear Fold is rated for 13-foot drop protection, and is the most protective clear case I’ve tried, though there’s no hinge protection. Grab this Flip Cover and give it a try.

I liked the silicone cover with the Samsung ring. It’s protective, has a nice smooth finish, and there’s an internal loop to help keep the phone from falling — and you can also attach the loop to a lanyard and wear the phone around your neck. Unfortunately, while I was able to hold the phone on certain surfaces using the ring, I would have liked it better if the case converted to a kickstand.

The Gear4 Bridgetown case shares similarities with Spigen’s Tough Armor case (see below). It’s also a hard case that only comes in black and has good hinge protection. One of the best protective cases for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. I just wish it was available in more colors or a clear version.

Otterbox only makes two cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 3: the Thin Flex and this one, the Symmetry Flex. Unfortunately, the Thin Flex series looks cheap and is hard to remove from your phone when you turn it on. However, the sturdier and more attractive Symmetry Flex qualifies as the top case for the Z Flip 3. It’s a clear case with a black border around it that makes your phone stand out a bit while still offering good drop protection. I just wish it had more colors.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G leather cover is equivalent to Apple’s leather case for iPhone. Expensive, but good – and slim. While it’s not as protective as some of the cases on the list, it’s one of my favorites, and if you get it in a bright color like mustard, it makes your phone easy to spot. Also available in green and black. The biggest knock against it is that it’s expensive, but you can sometimes find it on sale for around $40.

It’s a soft case like Samsung’s Ring case, but instead of a ring, it has a strap. You slide your hand under the strap (and behind the phone), which allows you to grab and hold your hand without wrapping your fingers around it. This is basically a security clause. The strap also slightly protects the hinge when the phone is folded. In addition, you can attach the end of the strap to a strap or attach it to another strap (for example, on a bag or backpack).

In addition to having some uses, the strap also seems to be designed to draw attention to your phone. For better or worse, it does just that, so if you’re using this case, plan on people asking you about your phone. It comes in several colors.

Spigen makes several cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. As the name suggests, Tough Armor is durable and offers the most protection in the Spigen line. It is also the only Spigen case that has an integrated protective cover for the hinge.

As far as protective cases go, it’s one of the best and just doesn’t have an integrated base. I also somehow wish it had more colors. Black is the only option for now.

The Crystal Clear version, part of Spigen’s Air Skin series of cases, is a thin clear case that offers basic protection. There is some adhesive that ensures your phone case doesn’t slip (as you can see from the photo, I didn’t pull the little tab to reveal it). It’s hard not to catch a speck of dust or two when you put it under the frame — and those dust particles will show if you have an all-black phone like mine.

Aramid fiber is basically Kevlar, so this case is durable but slim. It has a soft cover and is easy to hold. Many people like this item, although it looks simple and is expensive. It adds very little weight (and size) to the Z Flip 3 and looks protective.

It’s not a phone case per se, but if you’re looking for extra protection for your Z Flip 3’s external display, Spigen sells an external screen protector in a two-pack. It fits around the lenses and on the back screen and works well with most cases, although it works best with Spigen cases. (Not all Z Flip 3 case cutouts around the back display are the same size.)

If you’re looking for an affordable frame with an integrated ring that converts to a kickstand, this Vego is a good option, although it looks higher end than it actually is. Also sold under other brand names on Amazon. I can’t tell you how it holds up over time, but it has some nice features, including a cover that flips up to protect the phone’s camera and attaches to the car’s magnetic mount. A big downside is that it doesn’t support wireless charging.

Zagg has brought its InvisibleShield line of screen protectors to the Z Flip 3’s exterior screen. This is probably the smallest screen protector that Zagg has made. However, it somehow costs as much as screen protectors for much larger screens.
